Supporting Single Mothers: Economic Empowerment Workshops – Masaka District

The vibrant community of Masaka is home to many single mothers who struggle to provide for their children due to limited opportunities for employment or income generation. Recognizing the importance of empowering women to become financially independent, the Islamic Circle of Uganda, led by Namuddu Madinah, organized a series of economic empowerment workshops.

The workshops focused on practical skills like tailoring, soap-making, baking, and small-scale farming. Women were trained by local experts and provided with the tools and materials they needed to start their own businesses. Namuddu, who has a background in social work, explained the vision behind the program:
“We are not just giving these women temporary aid. We are giving them the skills and confidence to stand on their own, support their families, and contribute to their communities.”

One participant, Sarah, shared her experience:
“Before this workshop, I was struggling to make ends meet. But now, I know how to make soap, and I’ve already started selling it to my neighbors. My income has improved, and I can take better care of my children.”

The success of the program is evident in the growing number of women who have started their own small businesses. Namuddu and her team are committed to providing ongoing support, including marketing advice and access to small business loans. The goal is to create a network of empowered women who can uplift each other and drive economic growth in Masaka.
