Empowering Families Through Monthly Food Distributions – Mbale District

The quiet town of Mbale, known for its beautiful landscapes, faces significant economic challenges, with many families struggling to meet basic needs. In response, the Islamic Circle of Uganda (ICU) has been running a monthly food distribution program for the past year. This program, directed by Lubega Abubaka, focuses on providing life-saving food items to families living in extreme poverty.

During the latest distribution, over 100 families received packages containing staples such as rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, and maize flour. Lubega, addressing the crowd, emphasized the importance of community solidarity:
“We are a family, and as Muslims, it is our duty to ensure that no one among us goes hungry. This food is not just sustenance; it represents the love and care we have for one another.”

One of the beneficiaries, Amina, a widow with four children, shared her heartfelt gratitude:
“For months, I’ve struggled to provide food for my children. Today, we can eat for the next few weeks without worrying. I am deeply thankful for this help.”

Lubega, who personally oversees every distribution, has a deep connection with the community. His vision for the program extends beyond immediate relief, aiming to teach families about sustainable farming and self-reliance in the long run. As part of the initiative, the Islamic Circle plans to partner with local agricultural organizations to train beneficiaries on farming techniques that will ensure they can produce their own food in the future.
