Education remains one of the most powerful tools to lift families out of poverty, but many children in Mukono struggle to afford even basic school supplies. The Islamic Circle of Uganda, recognizing this gap, launched a back-to-school initiative aimed at supporting orphans and vulnerable children who face significant barriers to education.
Namuddu Madinah, a director, spearheaded the project, working tirelessly with local schools and community leaders to identify the most in-need children. During the most recent distribution, over 50 children received new uniforms, backpacks, books, pens, and other essential supplies. Namuddu also worked with school administrators to cover the tuition fees for several orphans.
At the event, Namuddu shared her thoughts:
“Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to learn and build a better future for themselves and their families.”
One of the beneficiaries, Aisha, a 9-year-old girl who lost both parents to illness, beamed with pride as she tried on her new uniform. She had not attended school for months due to a lack of supplies.
“I’m so happy I can go back to school. I want to become a teacher so I can help other children learn,” Aisha said excitedly.
This initiative goes beyond one-time aid. The Islamic Circle is committed to monitoring the progress of these children, ensuring they not only return to school but also receive ongoing support. They plan to launch mentorship programs to keep students motivated and connected to their studies.
