Eid Clothing Drive: Spreading Joy to the Needy During Festive Seasons – Gulu District

In the northern district of Gulu, where poverty levels are still high due to the lingering effects of conflict, the Islamic Circle of Uganda launched a special Eid clothing drive. Zam Namuddu, a director and accountant, personally led the initiative, ensuring that the joy of Eid could be felt by all, regardless of their financial situation.

In collaboration with local mosques, the Islamic Circle identified children and families most in need. On the day of the distribution, Zam and her team brought boxes filled with beautifully made traditional outfits, ensuring that each recipient received clothing appropriate for the celebrations. Over 200 children and adults, many of whom had never owned new clothes, were given colorful dresses, tunics, and shoes.

“Eid is a time of celebration, but it’s also a time of giving,” Zam said, addressing the gathered families. “We want to make sure that everyone, especially the children, can celebrate with dignity and joy.”

One of the beneficiaries, Musa, a father of four, shared his gratitude:
“For months, I couldn’t afford to buy new clothes for my children. This kindness has made Eid special for us. My children are so happy, and that makes me happy too.”

The clothing drive is part of a broader effort by the Islamic Circle to support communities during important Islamic holidays. Zam and her team plan to expand the program to reach more families in need during future Eids, as well as other festive occasions like Ramadan.
